When fast fashion dominates the fashion industry, a few brands stand out with their unique designs and artisanal production, combining, in some cases, sustainability and ecology. This is the case with Mertl & Valente, a Czech-Italian label. A shared passion for timeless elegance brought together two fashion enthusiasts to create luxury clothing, producing pieces that embody meticulous beauty, comfort, and respect for the environment.
The founders met during their fashion design studies in Cornwall, where they specialised in developing innovative and sustainable products. Their complementary traits – one emotional, the other pragmatic – strengthened the creativity and practicality of their designs. Rejecting fast fashion norms, they committed to producing high-quality clothing while minimising their carbon footprint at every stage of production. To achieve this, the two designers use organic and local materials, focusing on production and sales exclusively within Europe. This approach allows the brand to emphasise the quality and longevity of their garments.
Highlighting artisanal talent
At Mertl & Valente, each garment and new collection is the result of a rigorous and meticulous creative process. It all begins with a discussion on paper, where the initial design of the piece is sketched and refined. The designers then move on to the muslin stage, a crucial step that allows them to focus on finishes and details. Each piece goes through two or three prototypes before being finalised, ensuring impeccable quality.
This attention to detail is also reflected in their fabric choices, primarily working with satin, cotton, and wool. The result is a range of clothing that offers superior comfort, a sensual feel, and a nostalgic aesthetic.
Timeless feminine elegance
The goal of Mertl & Valente? To offer clothing that embodies feminine elegance and timeless beauty. Inspired by the women in their everyday lives, their creations provide both confidence and comfort while adapting to a modern lifestyle. Each piece is designed with a minimalist approach, where structural elements are carefully concealed, making the interior as flawless as the exterior.
The combination of Czech and Italian cultural influences is at the heart of the brand’s identity. The Italian creative director draws inspiration from the elegance and culture of Italy, while the Czech editor incorporates the diverse architectural beauty of Prague. This unique fusion produces sophisticated pieces that resonate with a discerning clientele, blending Italian sophistication with Prague style.
